Grade Point Average

Cumulative Grade Point Average

[Applies to all B.S. degrees]

Requirement: A cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00

Comments: The grades in all courses taken at Washington University count in your cumulative grade point average except:

Courses from which you have withdrawn/passing (grade of "W")

Courses with the grade of "N" (no grade), Pass ("P#") and Pass/fail Fail ("F#")

   Courses in progress

   ECMP 1001

   Physical Education (L28) courses

Army and Air Force ROTC courses. If you complete an entire ROTC sequence, you may count up to 12 units of ROTC courses toward your total degree requirement's units, but the grades received in these courses will not count in the GPA calculation.

Courses taken in either WU night school (University College--coded Uxx, and Technology--coded Txx)

Course labeled as "repeated" (with a grade of "R" or with a grade and the symbol "R")

The cumulative grade point average calculated by the School of Engineering may not always agree with the cumulative grade point average shown on your official transcript. If you begin a graduate degree at Washington University, and are coded as being “primarily” a graduate student, the University’s computer program that calculates cumulative grade point average will do a “fresh” graduate student grade point average calculation.

Plus ("+") and minus ("-") symbols do not affect your cumulative grade point average.
